Breast milk will take nutrients out of your own body if you don’t supplement it with your own food intake, if the necessary vitamins aren’t there, you won’t produce breast milk, but usually all of the vitamins you need are there, or you wouldn’t be well.

we only need very small quantities of vit B12 for our good health. but if you’re worried, you can try to supplement your vit B12 by eating cereals or soymilk fortified with vit B12.

A nursing mother who is on a vegan diet is taking big risks with the health of her baby. Maybe the baby will have sufficient nourishment, maybe not. The best thing to do is to drop the vegan diet until the baby is weaned.

According to the US National Institute of Health, “with appropriate food choices, vegan diets can be adequate for children at all ages.” The American Dietetic Association also considers well-planned vegan diets “appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy and lactation,” but recommends that vegan mothers supplement for iron, vitamin D, and vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 deficiency in lactating vegetarian mothers has been linked to deficiencies and neurological disorders in their children.
