Are finger prick cholesterol analyses, like the ones they do at health fair, considered very accurate?

Thanks in advance for your help.

yes, it is still your blood so they are able to get the reading they need to determine your levels

I would not trust these. Do a 12 hour fast and get ur blood drawn.

I would doubt that the finger prick test would be as accurate as those done by assay in a lab. They would both be, though, equally as pointless.

You would be better off to get tested for homocystine levels, as this is believed to damage the artery lining, which starts off the atherosclerosis process; (This is not the only thing though that can damage the artery lining.)
and C-Reactive protein, which is a marker of inflammation. Atherosclerosis, as with any attempt by the body to heal damage, involves inflammation in the early part of the process.
