How can I improve my jogging speed and endurance?

I recently took up jogging after building up my cardio by walking and using the elliptical. Now I am trying to improve my speed and endurance? Any tips?

Also, I sometimes get a pain in my right side after jogging for awhile. Does this have to do with my breathing? I breath properly through my nose and out my mouth. Any way to relieve this pain?

Thanks!

The cramps? That’s your muscles getting stronger.
Continue doing it daily, and you’ll improve. Don’t push yourself too hard.

Through time and discipline you’ll get better. The thing with running is you have to be patient yet aggressive in pursuing your goals.

Tip: Set a PR for a comfortably hard distance, and try to top it everyday. That’s what I did to get started and eventually you’ll be pounding out miles.

And if the pain is on the right side of your stomach there’s a chance it might be a side stich, which mimics the pain of a bad bad cramp. I normally just try to move my liver around with my hand while running and eventually it goes away. Ways to prevent cramps are to drink tons of water, and make sure you have the right vitamins in your system before running…like potassium(eat a banana before your run).

    Good luck running!

The best way to improve your speed is too go faster!! And the best way to improve your endurance is to go longer!! In small increments of course.
Don’t run through the pain if it’s recurring. It could be that you start out too fast or eat too soon before a run or it could be something entirely different.I would say get it checked out by a doctor if it is not something to do with what i mentioned above and if it occurs frequently.
And avoid hard surfaces like tarmac and pavement if possible, too much jarring of the joints.

To improve speed and endurance, you should continue to jog except you want to increase your goal everyday. Ex: 1st day 20 min jog 2nd day 30 min 3rd day 40 min. (doesn’t need to be +10 min. each day) Of course, there is a limit to how much you can go but going for a little bit more each day would be good. The pain on your right side means you’re going to get stronger :)
