What form of swimming is best to tone and lose weight?
I just bought a gym membership at a facility which has a swimming pool dedicated to people who swim laps. How much time is required swimming to burn a fair number of calories. I would like to know what swimming form is the best all round body work out.
butterfly
I am 16 years old and am considers an athlete, i specialise in swimming. I swim 5 km a day, 6 days a week. My work out consists of 1km freestyle, 1km breaststroke, 1km freestyle, 1k breaststroke, 500m butterfly and 500m backstroke.
sorry i dont have a picture, and it took me 2 years of dedicated training to get to that intensive training.
Good luck!, make sure you have an interesting person you swim with, laps do get very boring but my parents force me to swim.
A swimming workout can be a refreshing way to get or stay in shape. It provides an awesome full body aerobic workout that tones muscles, improves strength and flexibility, increases circulation, controls weight and enhances body contours.
Swimming workouts offer you a low impact activity that can easily be tailored to match your abilities. These workouts can also be a good way to gain cardiovascular stamina.
The secret to a good swimming exercise program is to work with the water. To accomplish this, you need to swim using your abs, hips and shoulders to propel yourself through the water.
To know why water exercise works so well, you need to understand water’s unique properties. In water, your body has almost no gravity. You’re relieved of 90% of your body weight so you become buoyant.
You can float, bob and relax without feeling like you’re putting out any effort. Yet water provides 12 to 14 percent more resistance than air, so moving through it is like having weights around you.
Swimming laps is good exercise in a swimming pool. Try different strokes to vary the muscles you work to keep your workout balanced.
Going vertical or upright is another very effective exercise in water. These types of water workouts include water walking, jogging, water aerobics, water toning, water therapy, water yoga and water flexibility training.
You can strengthen your muscles with these vertical water workouts because you experience 75% greater resistance than swimming horizontally. This vertical position maximizes the resistance of water against your movements.
If you want to burn the maximum amount of calories, workout in the pool a minimum of 30 minutes and up to an hour once you become more fit.
