Does this mean I have HPV?

I went in for an annual pap smear and they said they found adnormal cells which meant HPV. So they referred me to a woman’s health care and they ran a test on me. They took a sample of my cervix tissue to test it for HPV to see how severe it is. However, they called me and told me the results were negative. So does this mean I do not have HPV. But if I didn’t what did my pap smear results mean?

sometimes anything can disturb a pap smear meaning
    can cause abnormal test results
if you were tested a second time and it came back negative there
is nothing to be worried about
hpv can be caused by alot of things
have you had the gardasil shot
    it protects against most hpv’s
read on this link might be of good use for you
    hope this helps a little

Cervix cancer isn’t always caused by HPV it just that it is considered the leading cause of cervix cancer. If your pap is abnormal they will continue to monitor you but you can have cervix cancer and not have hpv. I am not saying that you have cervix cancer, it’s just that they are going to have to watch you. They might do your pap twice a year now or just keep it yearly.

I got one of these, they described it as ASCUS–”atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance”. It just means the cells look a little weird. When that happens they test for HPV, if it comes up positive for HPV it means you’re at heightened risk for cervical cancer, but if it is negative it’s considered insignificant. The usual practice is to follow up in one year with another Pap smear to make sure the cells have returned to normal, but the odds of going on to develop cervical cancer in the absence of HPV are extremely low. Get another Pap smear a year from now and don’t worry about it in the meantime!
